Ashiatsu originated in Japan and was a result of the theories of Usui Kano, a Japanese naturalist and practitioner of the ancient Chinese medicine. Ashiatsu was not considered to be massage at the time of its earliest forms. It was more of a spiritual practices. This increases gradually in intensity.
